 PAST SWIM MEETS

April 2019  Spring Nationals

​

Tough competition at the U.S. Masters National Swim meet held in Mesa AZ with over 2,000 participants from all over the country.  Four Green Valley residents (Craig Shaffer, Terry Ludwig, Samantha Martoni and Joanie Eastridge) competed in this 4 day meet.  

Craig Shaffer, representing the 70-74 age group, came away with 6 individual medals and 2 relay medals: 3rd place in the  200 Back, 4th - 200 Fly, 7th - 1000 Free, 100 Fly, 400 IM,  10th - 100 Back and  10th in the Men’s 200 Free and 200 Medley Relay.

Terry Ludwig, 65-69 age group, medaled in 1 individual event and 2 relay events, with a 10th place in the 100 Back, 8th place in both the Men’s 200 Free and Medley Relays.

Samantha Martoni, 55-59 age group, medaled in 1 relay event placing 10th in the 200 Free relay while attaining a personal best for her 50 Free effort. Her best showing in an individual event was 15th in the 100 Breast.

Joanie Eastridge, 60-64 age group, best individual effort was a 15th in the 200 Fly and 100 Fly.

November 17, 18 2018 Short Course meters State meet.

Representing GVR swim club; Joannie Eastridge, Toni Estrada, Terry Ludwig, Samantha Martoni and Craig Shaffer.

 

 

May 18-21 2018 Canadian Nationals in Calgary

 

Joannie Eastridge, head swim coach of the GVRSC and Samantha Martoni both from the United States and Canadian Bob Wilkins, all members of the GVRSC competed in the Canadian Masters Swimming Championship event in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.        

 

The entrants participated in several different strokes and distance.  Eastridge won four silver and one bronze medals; Martoni won one gold and three silver medals and Wilkins won one gold and five silver medals.

 

May 9-12 2018 National Masters Swim meet in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Three GVR Swim Club members were among 2,400 entrants at National Championship meet.

Craig Shaffer medaled in five events. He placed sixth in the 400 IM, 7th in the hundred fly, 7th in the 200 fly, 9th in the 200 back for his age group 70-74 and also in a swim relay event. Joannie Eastridge, who is also the head coach of the GVR Swim Club medaled in two events with 8th in the 200 fly, and 9th in the 200 IM in the 60-64 age group, Samantha Martoni medaled in 3 events the 50 Breast with 10th Place, the 100 breast 9th place, and the 200 breast 8th Place in the 55-59 age group.

 

April 6-8  Arizona State Championship SCY Oro Valley

Congratulations to our Green Valley Swimmers  that competed in the AZ Masters State Meet.  It was a great success for everyone. We all swam in some smoking hot relays and a special hooray  to: 

Jan Miller:  competed in 5 events and brought home 2, 3rd  places in 100 breast and 100 back

Sam:  swam in 7 individual events and brought home 4 first places:  100 breast, 100 fly, 50 breast, 200 IM

Mo: swam in 7 individual events and brought home 1 first place: 50 fly

Terry: swam  in 8 individual events and brought home 1 first place: 200 Back

Joannie swam in  7 individual events and brought home 1 first place:  400 IM 
 

Way to Go Team!!!
 

Speaking of TEAM, one of the officials noted that our little band of 5 people had more team spirit cheering our GV friends in every event than any team there large or small!!!  Now that's something else to be proud of.  :)

Feb 25            Arizona Sr Olympic Games – qualifier for National Games in 2019 

​

Craig, Joanie and Sam represented the team at the Arizona Senior Olympic qualifier. Craig won 2 gold, 2 silver; Joanie won 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze; Samantha won 4 gold and 1 silver. All 3 qualified for the National Senior Olympics which will be held in Albuquerque, NM  in June 2019.

Jan 28            Polar Bear Classic  - Tucson           

​

Overall, it was a great meet and a lot of fun. We had 12 team mates (Joanie, Brad, Sam, Craig, Terry, Mo, Darien, Gord, Joyce, Hank, Pete and Steve) who participated with many personal best from everyone. Special thanks to Brenda who shot the awesome photos and too our non participating team cheering section.
